Illinois Marketplace / Exchange Open Enrollment

Illinois HealthCare Exchange / Marketplace open enrollment period is approaching. The proposed Open Enrollment Period is November 15, 2014–February 15, 2015, for benefits effective January 1, 2015. Open enrollment is the only time of year you can get a major medical plan that will count as minimum essential coverage in the individual and family market without qualifying for special enrollment period.

The qualifying events listed below will result in a special enrollment period under Affordable Care Act (Healthcare Reform).

  • Getting married
  • Having, adopting, or placement of a child
  • Permanently moving to a new area that offers different health plan options
  • Losing other health coverage for example, due to a job loss, divorce, loss of eligibility for Medicaid or CHIP, expiration of COBRA coverage, or a health plan being decertified. (Voluntarily terminating/dropping other health coverage due to a premium increase or being terminated for not paying your premiums will not be considered loss of coverage.)
